26 Lessons To Take Into The Next 26 Years

Tomorrow I turn 26. Whilst I thought I would be having a complete meltdown about not having a few things ticked off my life list I'm oddly excited. I'm looking forward to leaving behind the shambles that were the first half of my 20's and embracing the later half of them. Here are the best lessons that I'm going to take from my first 26 years and always put them into practice in the next.

  • Life has a funny way of teaching you invaluable lessons.
  • Age really does mean very little.
  • Your intuition is very powerful and not something to ignore.
  • Time isn't something we can make more of.
  • Always be humble and kind.
  • Worry about the things you can control, not the things that you can't.
  • Your worth should never be based on the money that you earn.
  • Doing the thing that you love doesn't have to be the way you bring in an income and there is no shame in that.
  • We're all doing the best that we can in the moment we're in.
  • No two circumstances, no matter how similar are ever the same.
  • Live in the now, not the future or the past.
  • Comparison is a direct route to unhappiness.
  • Give other people their best chance and don't hold anyone back for your own gain.
  • You're not a robot, you're not indestructible and you need to look after yourself.
  • Some people just aren't nice and you can't change them.
  • What your values are don't have to match those of others.
  • Your past does not define your present.
  • Being nice is a lot easier than being mean.
  • There is never an age restriction on what you want to achieve.
  • No-one has the right to make you feel inferior.
  • It's ok not to want the cookie cutter life goals that society has set for you. They're not for everyone.
  • Friendships require just as much effort relationships.
  • Being a homebody & an introvert doesn't make you weird at all.
  • Run your own race, never someone else's.
  • Having patience and no judgement are two traits that will make you much happier in life.
  • Material possessions don't always equate in happiness, they're a nice added extra but not a foundation.

I'd love to know what your favourite life lessons are so far?
