Getting Your Moneys Worth Out Of Your Beauty Products & Tools
Like most people when I spend money on something I like to make sure that I'm really getting my use out of it. This is especially important to me when it comes to beauty products. So here are a few fail-safe ways to really get everything you can from your products and make them last as long as you can.
KEEP THINGS CLEAN
This tip is super important when it comes to your makeup brushes. Not only is important to keep things clean to get rid of bacteria that could cause unwanted breakouts. But a good cleansing routine can make your brushes last years. I've got brushes in my collection that are 5+ years old, they weren't really expensive. But by not letting product build up it's meant that they've lasted a really long time. The same rule goes for your beauty products. You can find antibacterial sprays to use on your items online to keep things sterile.
DON'T BE AFRAID TO CUT THINGS OPEN
I'm a sucker for a well-packaged beauty product and hate to ruin things but cutting tubes open is a great way to make the most out of your products. Sometimes no matter how hard you squeeze you just can't get anything out so you presume everything's gone. You'd be surprised how much product can be left inside that would have gone wasted otherwise.
BE CAREFUL WITH CONCEALER
This was a lesson that took me a while to learn but never apply concealer directly to blemishes with the doe foot applicator. All you're doing is transferring bacteria and germs from the blemish directly to the sponge that never gets washed and is being put back into the unused product. It might not be as quick or easy but applying some to the back of a clean hand or finger. Then applying it to the blemish is a much more hygienic way to do things then you don't run the risk of ruining your concealer.
STORE APPROPRIATELY
Even though it might seem like the easiest place to store your skincare. The bathroom is the worst place for it [apart from cleansers, they're ok]. The heat and steam can change the makeup of most products as can the sunlight. Same goes for perfumes, if they are in direct sunlight it can do all sorts of funny things to them. It can be difficult to find functional storage that is the best for your products that also happens to be aesthetically pleasing but there are methods out there. They might not be the most conventional methods but if they work that's all that matters. Like storing your nail polish in the fridge...
ROTATE REGULARY
I'm a big creature of habit and when I find something that I like and what works for me I tend to stick with it. Which means that I don't get as much use out of everything I own. Setting yourself little challenges like wearing a different lipstick every day and changing your daily makeup on a weekly basis is a great way to do this. There is absolutely no point of having products sitting around doing nothing in your collection that be used every day by someone else.
DON'T OVER APPLY
For a long time, I didn't pay any attention to the recommended amount of something. So when it came to shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser and serums I was applying far too much and that extra amount wasn't doing any good. Be careful with how much you're applying because it's only going to lead to waste and that is something you never want. Especially when it comes to high-end beauty that costs a pretty penny.
How do you make sure you get the most out of your beauty products?
