Style Resolutions For A Capsule Wardrobe
2015 was the year of the capsule wardrobe for so many of us. It's something that I want to carry on throughout the next 12 months. So like the other areas of my life I've decided to set some resolutions to try and follow and I'm super excited to share them with you today.
break up the monochrome
As you can see from the photograph above, my clothing selection is very monochromatic. This year I want to try and explore colours a little more, shades like forest green, navy and burgundy are colours that I've dabbled in before but never quite stuck to. Of course, I love the effortless chic of a monochrome outfit but I like adding a pop of colour here and there [I can't be the only one who hates that phrase?]. I've found one of the easiest ways to do this is try different coloured coats, I'm a little bit of a coat obsessive and love trying out new styles. This winter I've gone for green with a traditional parka for general everyday wear. A new and very sensible purchase was a North Face jacket. I'm a regular dog walker and it's been a complete life saver on those ice cold days, as well as a good set of thermals of course.
TRY DIFFERENT LENGTHS & CUTS
I'm not a believer in following any rules when it comes to style. However, now I'm getting a little bit older I feel like I should be trying out a few different lengths in the skirts and dresses that I wear. They are my favoured items over jeans so switching things up could completely overhaul some of my favourite outfits. I've always stayed away from longer lengths as I felt that they cut me off on an unflattering place on my leg. But by shopping around, I think I will find something that works for me and my taste. This is something that will take a little bit of time and I'm always drawn to the same styles and shapes when shopping so I just need to step out of my comfort zone a little bit.
STAY AWAY FROM STRIPES
That's right, you just read something you probably thought you would never see on this blog. I love stripes, more than any other pattern when it comes to clothing but I feel like I've gone a little bit overboard with them. I want to try some different patterns but I know busy patterns aren't something that suit me because I've got visible colourful tattoos that clash with them. So I'm thinking maybe polka dots might be a fun pattern to explore or maybe try out different fabrics to add a little bit more interest to an ensemble.
DECREASE MY LOUNGEWEAR COLLECTION
Just like my love for stripes is strong my love for loungewear is possibly even stronger. For years, I never bought dedicated items to lounge around in and just retired old items of clothes for that purpose. For the past couple of months, I've bought specific pieces just for lounging around it. By doing that, I've managed to get rid of a lot of clothes that were worn out and had so many red thai soup stains on that you could play dot to dot on them. I'm set on not wanting to hoard any items that I don't wear at all as they could go elsewhere and be of use to someone else.
DRESS A LITTLE SMARTER
In my day to day life, there is no need for me to dress smartly. I work for myself from home, so, in reality, I could work in the nude if I wanted [I don't, obviously it's far too cold for that]. When I do go out and have meetings I want to make sure I've got a few items in my wardrobe that I can rely on. I'm thinking a couple more shirts [I wear Oxford shirts a lot] and some shirt dresses as they are a fail-safe smart ensemble whilst still ensuring comfort.
Do you have any style resolutions?
