5 Books To Read When You Feel Blue

Whenever I'm feeling down and out I love to read. There is something so magical about picking up one of your favourite books and burying your head in it until you start to feel a little brighter. I've got 5 of my favourite books to share with you today. No matter what, they always put a smile on my face whenever I start turning the pages.

SALI HUGHES - PRETTY HONEST: My love for beauty is of course, very apparent already but when I read Pretty Honest I started to appreciate it so much more. The way that Sali Hughes writes about beauty is completely magical and the photography in this book is just as dreamy. There is an array of topics covered and it breaks down complex jargon making it simple to understand. Making it the perfect book for beginners. You can dip in and out of it at your leisure if you're not in the mood to follow a complex story line.

AMY POEHLER - YES PLEASE: Amy Poehler is one of those women that I would love to sit down with and just listen to what she has to say. Her book Yes Please is probably the closest that I'm going to get to that in reality. It's packed full of incredible stories from her career and the honest reality of what was going on behind the highlights. Parks & Rec is one of all time favorite shows so I loved getting to know more behind her relationships with the characters, especially my spirit animal April Ludgate. The final chapter on how she thinks her laptop is trying to kill her is absolutely hilarious and something I think we can all relate to.

PAUL ARDEN - IT'S NOT GOOD HOW YOU ARE, IT'S HOW GOOD YOU WANT TO BE: This is a book that you can finish in around 30 minutes but it's an amazing pick me up. It makes you feel like you're capable of absolutely anything that you put your mind to and nothing can stop you from achieving what you want. Not only is this book incredibly uplifting but it completely changes the way that you might be thinking about certain situations. Even the negative ones can be turned into something positive. His other book is also incredible if you fancy another inspirational read.

ANNE OF GREEN GABLES - L.M MONTGOMERY: I love the story of Anne, she's such a sweet young girl who had a tough start to life but she doesn't let that hold her back in her achieving her dreams. Even though this is a children's book I still think it's absolutely magical to read as an adult. It doesn't feel like a young read at all as it covers such important issues that we all deal with in life. Of course, it goes without saying that the Rifle Paper Co edition is absolutely stunning which always makes reading it that little bit more special.

HEIDI - JOANNA SPYRI: This is another book that I can finish in a matter of hours. The tale of Heidi isn't always smooth sailing when she moves away from her Grandfather's home to the city but when she returns it's an incredibly heart warming story. Even though there is definitely sadness throughout the book I can't help but feel happy whenever I read it. Any book that has a strong family element to it always cheers me up and reminds me to appreciate my own more.
