Why It's So Amazing When You Find Your Personal Style

Something that I think about quite often is personal style and how much it changes and evolves as we get older. Over the years I've definitely honed in on my personal style and it's strangely been such a relief after so many years of not quite feeling comfortable and constantly worrying about what I was wearing. And it wasn't until the end of last year and 2017 that I finally had that moment where I realised that I really looked forward to getting ready dressed and felt confident in the outfits that I was putting together. Of course, like most people, I do still have little blips but in general, I think I've finally found my personal style.

LOVING OTHER PEOPLES'S STYLE ON THEM, NOT ME

Something that took a while for me to learn was to appreciate other people's style on them and not constantly try and make it work for me. Whilst it is awesome to take inspiration from other people and work it into your own style it's so easy to just take what they're wearing and recreate the exact same outfit. And I think this is something that we've all probably done, especially in our teen years when you and all your friends all wear the same clothes in slightly different variations. But now with my friends, we couldn't dress anymore different and that's awesome because we all feel confident in what we're wearing and never feel the need to make ourselves similar to each other. I totally believe that this is something that comes with time and gets easier as you get older as it doesn't feel so scary to step away from the crowd.

ENJOY THE JOURNEY

We all probably look back at our younger years and think 'what on earth were we doing'? and I have outfits that I wish I'd never put on my body but then part of me knows that is part of the fun. If I never wore those outfits that I now look back and cringe at constantly then I wouldn't have found my style. And it's fun to experiment, there is no right or wrong when it comes to style and it's all about exploring and taking a few risks.

PRACTICAL > FASHION

Part of finding my personal style for me has been realising that I don't really care for fashion and trends and much prefer the really timeless solid style basics. Some people might deem those things boring but they make my materialistic heart sing and what I like to purchase. Over the years I've realised that the clothes that I need to buy need to be practical. Gone are the years that I used to stand dithering around in 'fashionable' outfits that never kept me warm or dry. Now unless I can walk the dog in it or have a specific use for an item, I will never buy it and that is something that has not only helped me form a better relationship with clothes. But also helped me hone in on the stuff that I not only feel really good in but what works for my life too. Because I do believe that clothes should, of course, keep you warm and dry but they should also be something that makes you feel awesome when you put it on.
